Fisheries Improvement Project is multiple fishery stakeholders initiatives including processing plants, fishers, the private sector, fishery management authorities , researchers, and NGOs that aim to improve the sustainability, practices and management of fisheries to meet the standards required by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) or MarinTrust certifications.
The involvement of multiple stakeholders with varying perspectives and backgrounds ensures that the FIP activities are appropriate for the socio-political context of the fishery. Fishery improvement projects are typically multi-year projects that increase levels of sustainability
