In association with CPF (India) Pvt .Ltd, one of the leading manufacturer of shrimp feed in India and M/s Omega Fish meal and Oil Pvt. Ltd, Ratnagiri one of the leading manufacturer & exporter of fish meal and fish oil from India realized the need and responsibility to conserve natural resources by improving the efficiency of fisheries management and governance, together with environmental responsibility and transparent traceability of fishery products throughout the supply chain.
As a step to foster sustainable fisheries and to meet the International demand, we have decided to undertake a Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) for Indian Oil Sardine by engaging the Marin Trust. The FIP is a pre-requisite for getting Marin Trust Certification & Indian Mackerel.The Marin Trust is an International certification body which certifies fish meal and fish oil producers around the world. Its vision is to ‘enhance human and livestock health and welfare via superior nutrition to the benefit of consumers worldwide.’
The project will be confined to Ratnagiri District of Maharashtra and Goa coast. During the project implementation, following major issues are expected to be addressed.
Fishes are sourced from responsibly managed fisheries, meeting the key principles of the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, and can be traceable throughout the supply chain.
Conservation of the resources and its management based on the Marine Fisheries Regulation Act (MFR) of Maharashtra and Goa that can prevent, deter and eliminate IUU fishing and overfishing as well as the protection of wider marine ecosystem.
Fishery by-products are from well managed stocks and not sourcing from IUU (Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated) fishing.
